Welcome to Black History Month, University of Sussex!

You are where you are today because you stand on somebody’s shoulders. And wherever you are heading, you cannot get there by yourself. If you stand on the shoulders of others, you have a reciprocal responsibility to live your life so that others may stand on your shoulders. It’s the quid pro quo of life. We exist temporarily through what we take, but we live forever through what we give.

Welcome to the University of Sussex official Black History Month blog. We are glad to have you stop by. We would be updating you on all our activities for Black History Month in October over here as well as entertaining you with works from writers, academics, and artistes everywhere.

Black History Month at the University of Sussex is curated by the Students Union, for students by students.

  1. Hey, I’m a BAME ambassador at The University of Huddersfield and I’m currently writing a blog post for the SU about ‘why black history month is important to me’

    1. Hello Malaika, nice to meet you… That is awesome! How do you think we can come in? We can share our ideas on what it means to us – or get our curator to talk to you on his position – if you want. But that sounds like a really nice topic to write on. We are currently having a project on something similar. To see what students think of it, Black History, in one-liners, more in the sense of ‘What does it mean to be Black?’ or ‘What does it mean to be African?’
